Tonbridge Station Ticket Office refurbishment

SWIFT RAIL SERVICES were contracted by Southeastern Railways to develop the GRIP 3 – 4 design of refurbished ticket office area at Tonbridge Station. On completion of the design SWIFT RAIL SERVICES were further contracted by Southeastern Railways to undertake both the Principal Designer Role during construction and a Project Management Support Role.

The main refurbishment works consisted of a full strip out of existing finishes, creation of new structural openings to accommodate a new ticket office windows and installation of a new kitchen area to the staff mess. All ceiling, wall, and floor finishes were also upgraded along with a full M&E upgrade to enhance staff and passenger experiences at the station.

During the works a temporary ticket office was provided to enable unrestricted access to the ticket office for works to undertaken. Once the ticket office staff had been set up in the temporary ticket office the main works commenced.

There was a quantity of asbestos within the ceiling void of the works area and prior to carrying out the works the contractor undertook a refurbishment and demolition asbestos survey and arranged for this to be removed detail of which have been included in this health and safety file.

On completion and handover of the project SSS Construction Consultants worked closely with Southeastern and their contractor of choice to prepare and issue the Health and Safety File. The works have been a great success and the ticket office design has now been adopted by Southeastern as their baseline standard. M.D of Southeastern David Statham officially opened the Ticket Office to rail users on the 20th May 2016.
